The Space Alien from That Day

This work was inspired by my two modest experiences: my daughter witnessing a space alien one afternoon, and the memory of a loquat tree on the street.

This exhibition was held at a closed-down elementary school just before its demolition. I worked together with my nine-year old daughter in the old elementary school that has been out of use. We planned together to hail the space alien, and fabricated some flags, practiced drawing circles in the schoolyard and set stakes. All these actions were spontaneous and left almost no marks behind.

Then we harvested bitter oranges from the tree by the school gate and hauled them into a classroom.

We collected approximately 90 bitter oranges and set them in the gallery space throughout the duration of the exhibition for people to take home with them if they wished.
